On October 26th, Osnabrück University celebrated its 50th anniversary with an open day, offering the general public a unique opportunity to experience cutting-edge research and explore the university’s diverse scientific landscape. Among the many participants, MicrocosmAI represented the NLP lab of the Institute of Cognitive Science, showcasing ongoing research and exciting developments in artificial intelligence and cognitive science.

Our student outreach team set up an interactive booth presenting the EBIMAS project and its achievements. We showed our advanced concepts in cognitive modeling, featured informative posters, interactive simulations, and a demonstration of our Ant agent—a virtual agent tirelessly seeking and retrieving objects in its environment. Many visitors were impressed by the scope of strategies used in the Ant simulation. Our team also presented an interactive visual reasoning benchmark demonstrating the complexities of visual problem-solving in AI.

We also shared our project with fellow researchers in computational neuroscience, natural language processing, and cognitive modeling. We received great feedback and acquired aspirations through the exchange.
The event received an overwhelmingly positive response. The visitors showed keen interest and curiosity about the projects on display. It was great to see the enthusiasm from academic researchers and the public. In the future, we look forward to keeping sparking interest in cognitive science and AI among students, and encourage more young minds to consider careers in these fields.
